Frequently Asked Questions
HOW DO VEGANS GET ZINC?
You can get zinc as a vegan from plant sources such as soybeans, wholemeal spaghetti, tofu, quinoa, pumpkin seeds, wheat germ, couscous lentils, wholegrain rice, cashews, and sesame seeds. Although zinc is more readily available in red meats for a carnivorous diet, it is easy enough to find alternative vegan and vegetarian sources in a variety of foods that will often form part of your regular vegan or vegetarian diet anyway.
IS PLANT ZINC BETTER THAN ANIMAL ZINC?
Zinc from animal based products tend to be easier absorbed by humans than plant-based zinc sources, although this can be easily balanced out by putting a focus on zinc absorption as part of your diet, and including zinc-rich foods such as wholegrain pasta and rice or soybeans in your food.
