A vegan omega-3 with DHA from algae, sustainably grown rather than fished, in softgels. DHA contributes to the maintenance of normal vision*, from two softgels providing 800 mg of DHA; 120 softgels, two months.

  • DHA from algae
  • 800 mg DHA
  • Sustainably grown
  • 120 softgels, two months
  • The original source. The DHA in fish arrives up the food chain from algae; these softgels take it from where it starts.
  • Vision, from the register. DHA contributes to the maintenance of normal vision*; the two-softgel daily serving provides 800 mg of DHA, above the claim's 250 mg daily condition.
  • Vegan throughout. No fish anywhere in the process, softgel included.

The source question, answered honestly.

Why algae rather than fish?

Because that's where the DHA was made in the first place. Fish accumulate it by eating algae, so a fish-free softgel isn't a compromise version of an omega-3.

If you eat oily fish happily a couple of times a week, you may not need a DHA softgel at all; meals got there first.

Why this formula

The rest of "why algae rather than fish":

For anyone who is vegan, vegetarian, allergic to fish or simply done with it, DHA stays on the table.

What about EPA?

This is a DHA product; no EPA is declared on the label. Some omega-3 claims apply only to EPA and DHA together at set daily amounts, and unless a label meets those conditions an honest page can't use them. Ours doesn't. The one claim here belongs to DHA alone.

Who is this NOT for?

And if fish oil suits you, our Omega-3 Fish Oil in the triglyceride form is the more direct route for the same family of nutrients. This bottle is for people who want the omega-3 without the fish in the story.

Benefit highlights, in full

(unedited field 4, kept for the accordion): - The original source. The DHA in fish arrives up the food chain from algae. These softgels skip the middle of that chain and take it from where it starts. Algae isn't the substitute here; fish were always the middleman. - Vision, from the register. DHA contributes to the maintenance of normal vision*, The two-softgel daily serving provides 800 mg of DHA, comfortably above the claim's 250 mg daily condition. - Grown, not fished. The algae is sustainably grown. That is a fact about how the oil is made, and we'll leave it as exactly that. - Vegan throughout. No fish anywhere in the process, softgel included: the shell is declared as modified vegetable starch, glycerin, carrageenan, sorbitol and purified water. - 120 softgels, counted. Two softgels a day, 60 servings per bottle: a two-month supply, read straight off the UK label.

Questions
How can an omega-3 be vegan?

The long-chain omega-3s people associate with fish are made by algae; fish collect them by eating it. Grow the algae directly and you get DHA with no fish involved at any point, softgel shell included.

Is algal DHA the same as the DHA in fish oil?

Yes, it's the same molecule. The difference is the route it took to the bottle: grown algae rather than caught fish. The label states the source, so you're not taking that on trust.

How many softgels a day?

Two, with a meal and a full glass of water, per the label directions. At two a day, 120 softgels is 60 servings, a two-month bottle. Take them at a time you'll actually remember.

What does "sustainably grown" mean here?

The algae is cultivated rather than taken from wild stocks, so the DHA supply doesn't lean on fishing. It's a sourcing fact, and we use it as one; it isn't a claim about what the softgel does.

How do I know it works?

One claim on this page is authorised and we've stated it with its footnote: DHA contributes to the maintenance of normal vision. Beyond that, what we offer is on the label: the source, the amounts, and a vegan softgel. No honest omega-3 page promises more.

Should I choose this or the fish oil?

Choose this if you want DHA without fish: vegan, allergic, or just a preference. Choose our Omega-3 Fish Oil, Triglyceride Form if fish oil suits you and you want EPA and DHA together. Different sources for different people; neither is the junior option.

What to expect

Days 1 to 14: Nothing you can feel, and that's normal. An omega-3 works by steady intake, not by a noticeable jolt. Anchor the serving to the same meal each day.

Weeks 4 to 8: The routine has become automatic, which is the point. A fish-free DHA habit that runs itself asks nothing further of you.

Ongoing: One bottle is 120 softgels: 60 servings at two a day, a two-month supply. Most people set a reorder rhythm once and stop thinking about it.

Our in-house nutrition tip

What I look for on an omega-3 label is the source, which omega-3s are actually in the daily serving, and the amounts, in that order. This one reads cleanly: DHA from sustainably grown algae, the source named, the amounts declared, in a vegan softgel. I'd also check the serving line before you buy any omega-3, because per-softgel and per-serving numbers are where labels quietly differ. And to be clear about what it is not: it doesn't replace a decent overall diet, and if a clinician has put you on a specific omega-3 plan, their plan leads. This is the fish-free way to follow through on your own.

*Authorised health claim under retained Regulation (EC) 1924/2006: DHA contributes to the maintenance of normal vision. Condition of use: the claim may be made only for foods providing a daily intake of 250 mg of DHA. Confirmed against the UK label: the two-softgel daily serving provides 800 mg of DHA, so the condition is met.
