How to choose

Choosing a multivitamin for women

There are two women's multivitamins to choose between here, and the difference between them is really how much you want to take and when. One Daily Essentials for Women is a single capsule a day, which suits anyone who wants one simple thing to remember. Women's Complete is four capsules a day, two with breakfast and two with dinner, for someone who would rather have the fuller spread and does not mind taking more. Both are vegan, and both use folate as methylfolate.

Both of these include iron, which is usually the point a woman is weighing up. If you are still having periods, a formula with iron is a common pick. There is a short read on iron for women if you would like the background before you decide.

Women over 50 are a slightly different case, so we keep separate iron-free formulas for that stage. And if you are weighing up whether you need a multivitamin at all, or just want to see what tends to go into a multivitamin for women, that guide walks you through it.

One small practical note: the Women's Complete capsules can be opened, so on a day when swallowing them does not appeal you can tip the powder into food instead. The one-a-day is the easier habit to keep, and the four-a-day gives you that option alongside a fuller daily routine.

Good to know

Questions people ask

How do I choose between them?

If you like one simple capsule, the One Daily Essentials. If you'd rather have the fuller formula and don't mind four capsules, the Complete.

When should I take it?

With a meal and a glass of water. The Complete is easiest as two capsules with breakfast and two with dinner, and its capsules can be opened into food or a drink.

Can I subscribe?

Yes. Choose Subscribe & Save on the product page and each delivery is timed to how long the pack lasts. You can pause, change or cancel whenever you like.

Does a woman need to take a multivitamin?

Not necessarily. A varied diet does most of the work for most people, and a multivitamin is really there for the patchy stretches, or simply when you would rather have the cover.

Do I need iron in my multivitamin?

It depends on you. Both women's formulas here include iron and the over-50 formulas leave it out, so if you are not sure which is right, your GP or pharmacist can point you the right way.

Is one capsule a day enough, or is four better?

Neither is better as a rule. One capsule is the simplest to keep up with, and four, taken two at breakfast and two at dinner, spread the same idea across the day for anyone who prefers that.
